The chosen individual will be in charge of a variety of duties aimed at keeping the hospital environment clean and sanitary. Among these include, but are not limited to:
Sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and polishing are examples of general cleaning tasks.
Daily garbage bin emptying, including general and medical waste.
Toilets and bathroom facilities must be thoroughly cleaned.
Cleaning the windows.
Cleaning supplies and equipment should be used, maintained, and stored properly.
Helping with linen handling, such as counting, sorting, and packaging.
Under nurse supervision, perform food hostess tasks such as meal collection and patient service.
Additional Responsibilities
Policy compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
Participating in in-service training courses.
Supporting supervisory staff.
Ability to provide relief in other departments if needed.
Qualifications and skills
Ability to speak effectively in at least two of the Western Cape’s three official languages: English, Afrikaans, or Xhosa.
Prior cleaning expertise, particularly in a healthcare or hygiene-focused environment, is preferable.
It is necessary to have basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Physical ability to move freely within the hospital and lift/move heavy objects.
Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and night duty.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a practical/competency assessment test. Further background checks will be conducted after shortlisting, including security clearance, qualification verification, and criminal record checks.
Annual Salary
R 125,373 – R 145,077, plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance)
